Selby - Keyboards, Bass/Drum programming, Vocals Greg Miner - Sax (soprano, alto, tenor), Flute "Cousin Katie" - Vocals on last tune of the night Musicians perspective: In the continuing adventures of Greg and Kevin, we find our heroes out of gas (in both rigs no less) and hoping like HECK that the gig doesn't get cancelled. It's like 10 degrees out, cold, icy roads, and Thanksgiving Eve (is that even an official holiday?). We get to Bookwalter and the ONLY couple that's even THERE, gets up while we're bringing gear in and leaves. Sigh. What's this night gonna be like? Well...not to worry...by the end of the 2nd set the place was PACKED! YEAH! So we went from table to table thanking those brave souls who made it out and we promised them that it's THEIR party and we're THEIR band. Good times....good times.... Oh...and it was so cool...Bookwalter kept it nice and warm inside and there was some humidity (from somewhere?) such that if you opened the front door of the place you got this steam curling up and over the doors. Man....it was Currier and Ives I'm tellin' ya! Okay...so this table of, like 10 people (including a cute little 16 year old celebrating her "sweet 16" birthday) kept bugging one of their members ("Cousin Katie") to get up there and sing. So...we know absolutely NOTHING that she does, so she goes out to her car and brings in the karaoke disk to end all karaoke disks and KNOCKS "Give Me One Reason" right out of the arena. Great job "Cousin Katie" (whomever you are!). Needless to say, Greg and Kevin got paid and promptly put gas in their rigs and survived to PLAY ANOTHER DAY! Warm happy thoughts! Oh...song highlights: "Just the Two of Us" played for first time and it wasn't too bad. We'll refine it to our standards of excellence. Cantaloupe Island and Mister Magic pretty decent. "Do It Again" pretty cool (dang I gotta nail those vocals...more practice)....We're getting closer to our dream of 70s fusion jazz domination. Even though we had "B-Street" and "Day Trip" ready (from my Palouse album), we never got to them. Dang dang dang. Oh well...next time. Until next time, Kevin B. Selby
