Selby - Keyboards, Bass/Drum programming, Vocals, Guitar Lee Ford - Guitars, Vocals Musicians perspective: This was a night of firsts for many reasons. First gig with Lee Ford and Kevin B. Selby together as "Baja Dunes". First gig using M-Audio Key Rig software (running on a stripped down older laptop) to provide the "bread and butter" sounds that a keyboardist needs: Acoustic Piano, Rhodes (electric piano), Wurlitzer (electric piano), Hammond B3 (organ), and various analog synthesizer sounds. I cannot get over how great the sounds are, especially in how musically "useful" and "colorful" they are. They fit into almost any mix and just sound great. I also cannot stress enough that a good keyboardist MUST have a volume pedal to easily adjust volume between normal "comping" (playing chords during a verse or chorus) and soloing. I did NOT have the right controller keyboard such that I could use a volume pedal and as a result you'll hear some fumbling around and overall stumbling as I attempted to get the volume right for our front-of-house (FOH) mix. Regarding the overall musicianship: Lee and I had practiced a little bit during the week but you can tell that not everything is as smooth as it should be. On the other hand, not too bad for our first ever gig together. We're hoping to smooth things out and really focus on our melodies and soloing (for the instrumentals) and getting "in the pocket" on some songs where we can really make those instruments shine. Until next time, Kevin B. Selby
