Wonderful Tonight The JK Duo performed cover songs of material "made famous by" the following artists: | Stephen Bishop | Dobie Gray | Gerry Rafferty | The Doors | America | Michael Martin Murphy | Bread Van Morrison | Steely Dan | Classics IV | The Eagles | The Cars | Ace | Stephen Bishop | The Romantics Eric Clapton | Paul Simon | Jimi Hendrix | The Youngbloods | Neil Young | Wild Cherry The Beatles | Johnny Nash | Bruce Hornsby | Pink Floyd | The Steve Miller Band Cast of characters: Kevin B. Selby - Keyboards, Vocals, All arrangements (unless noted), Bass/Drums programming and arrangements, Acoustic Guitar Jack Rothwell - Guitar, Vocals Musicians perspective: The "maiden voyage" of JK (the duo of Jack Rothwell and Kevin B. Selby). So...we had practiced 8-10 times for ~4 hours each and then we had a dress rehearsal gig (in the mancave) on Monday of this week. Even with all that preparation, I wouldn't say the gig was "perfect". The devil is in the details on the music we are trying to perform and some of it is fairly complicated. That said, I couldn't be happier with the outcome even with a few false starts. Some highlights: Riders on the Storm (yum!). Us and Them (who knew a duo could decently perform this amazing tune). Lucy in the Sky (what a weird, yet oddly cool song). Fly Like an Eagle (luv me some Steve Miller Band). M-Factor: 0 Until next time, Kevin B. Selby ------------------------------------------------------ This particular recording is the matrix recording: A "matrix" recording is where you take a soundboard recording (the QSC Touchmix 16 in this case) and blend in a stereo recording "from the room" (in this case, a Zoom Q3HD sitting at the back of the room pointed at our PA speakers). Matrix recordings usually pick up more of the room noise and crowd noise, but it is the frequencies and overall sound of the room that the soundboard recording DOESN'T pick up...so blending these two sources gives you a more "live" and warm sound when compared to a straight soundboard recording. ------------------------------------------------------
