Hammering up and down creates that little wiggle. Just like Jimi. I used a stereo pair of Peavey Celebrity CD-20 mics. These are our Blues Fest favorites for vocal mics and I wouldn't normally think of using them to record acoustics. Vocal mics often produce what I call thick mids on acoustic guitar. The first time through the change the mics are fairly close to the guitar, about a foot away, and a little above the guitar. This produced a really nice airy sound that I really like. The second time around you can see I've backed away from the mics and you can hear the thick mids. I often cut 3-6 db at 1K or 3K when I get this sound to bring out more detail in the high end. On this recording I didn't use any EQ. I just upped the volume a little when I backed away from the mics. In the video the change in sound seems very natural. I will remember that the Celebrity's give a nice airy sound up close when I am looking for that sound in the future. I also found the mics to be surprisingly detailed for vocal mics reproducing what you would call pick noise well. (I don't use picks.) This is a 24 bar blues change where I repeat I-IV-V starting on the tonic and then starting on the IV chord or subdominant. It's only when I go to the V or dominant chord that I fall back into a more traditional Boogie Woogie pattern. I wrote the song over 10 years ago and never recorded it until now but I never forgot it and occasionally would run through it as an exercise. It is great practice for that wiggly hammer on sound.
