My brother asked me if I wanted to go to Lubbock to catch the #3 Longhorns trying to get past Texas Tech, he had an extra ticket and was driving. I quickly realized the Gourds were playing the same night. Texas got beat, Kliff Kingsbury bettering Chris Simms and my brother, in his agony wasn't staying in Lubbock, he was deadheading home. A quick call to the band got me a floor to sleep on and a ride home to Austin the next day. And a show! An odd one too as this venue was the definition of a giant metal barn with a capacity of 2500. Tech had just beat hated Texas, so there were parties raging about town and no one was looking for a concert. Willie had played the night before anyway. So I was one of 19 people in front of the band that night. A personal concert almost.
