"Demo" is obviously a misnomer since the band was not cutting demos anymore; these performances sound like pre-production recordings that were done live to tape. The location of this recording is completely unknown; it came to me labeled as a 3rd-gen cassette with a date of February 4th, 1994, which I have no reason to doubt. Song notes: The first track, "Trust In Me", is from a separate recording session and has much higher production values than the rest of the tape. It's a cover song from Disney's Jungle Book, and was recorded for the soundtrack of the 1994 live-action remake. It was never released anywhere or played live; this is the only known recording. The rest of the tracks here were targeted for Four; everything from the album is here except for Brother John, and everything from the Run-Around CD-5 is here except for Lucky Lack. This is the second studio recording of Shotgun Shell, which had not been heard since "Let's Travel", and the first and only known recordings of Spinning Spiraling Machine and the exceedingly rare Best Be On My Way. The latter only gets 94 seconds before the tape runs out; it was played live a handful of times in the spring of 1994 before disappearing. Many songs cut out at the end, and there's a banter track where the band had many false starts on Just Wait. The Mountains Win Again is introduced under its original title, Smile In My Pocket; Hook features a much longer intro than was ever played live; and Look Around features an entire verse that was cut between these sessions and its live debut. Finally, this marks the earliest full-band recordings of everything from Run-Around onward; the first eight tracks had debuted in 1993 or earlier.
