Of course I've heard Carl Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes" in fact that was the first song I ever performed in public. But the real inspiration for the title was Van Morrison singing "Bring home the baby some new blue shoes" on Astral Weeks. Have you ever seen a video where someone thought they were taking stills and went from landscape to portrait? I simulated this at the beginning of "Blue Shoes" by playing sideways.
