akrasia may 26th 2012 pittsburgh- club cafe 1- last cigarette day 2- later on 3- penthouse 4- pretty girl from millvale 5- rubaiyat 6- zelda 7- got love if you want it 8- my soul, my own 9- julia pt. 2 10- beach hut 11- norway maple 12- cerulean 13- landless peasant blues 14- live on the moon bill danylo - orchestrator of the groove, vocals, acoustic guitar dr michael buric - electric guitar, vocals benji balix - bass guitar fletch - drums, vocals jordan auth - acoustic guitar 7-14 erika may - vocals 12, 2 paul tabachneck - vocals 2 slacker-rock heroes akrasia made a triumphantly loud return to the public stage to celebrate the release of two new collections "people in hell want ice water" and "jagoff hearts" and drink beer. 2012 marks a whole decade since the first akrasia sessions. the assorted cast of characters that have accompanied mssrs danylo, buric and balix have come and gone but 2012 akrasia is perhaps the finest vintage yet. the buzz in the crowd was that this was to be akrasia's final concert, but i've heard that one before. bill danylo furiously led the troops into the breach roaring, leaping about and beating his poor mahogany martin like a man possessed. dr buric was smooth and cool weaving electric leads, creating soundscapes of ambient textures and hoedowning on the banjo. benji balix bobbed and banged out bassial rhythms lock step with fletch, perhaps the most primal and adventurous drummer to ascend to the akrasia throne. they brought some friends with them- mr jordan auth who executed acoustic leads with finesse and precision, the lovely erika may who stole the show reviving 'cerulean' into soulful rapture, and paul tabachneck (dead pressed flowers) who frenzied the crowd with a blistering opening set. the 'setlist' was new-centric with many songs making their live full-band debut and fresh interpretations of beloved chestnuts from the akrasia canon. from the moonshine-fueled 'later on' to the sprawling epic 'zelda' to the swampy 'landless peasant blues and everything in between, the new songs display an evolved maturity. danylo's lyrics are alternately and concurrently witty and weary, personal and universal, resigned and optimistic. and the band rocks. it was everything you'd expect from an akrasia show in all of its ramshackle glory: broken strings, epic geetars, inebriated jagalopes merrily singing and dancing, in-the-moment arrangements that sometimes recall a tightrope walker seemingly on the cusp of falling that instead does seven back flips and blasts into space on a ramen-powered jetpack. i had a great time. akrasia had a great time. everybody in the cafe had a great time. if you were there- you were there. if you weren't- then it sounded kind of like this. wish you could've been more here. -paul ashley archivist/historian 1. 01- last cigarette day 01. 01- last cigarette day 02. 02- later on 2. 02- later on 03. 03- penthouse 3. 03- penthouse 04. 04- pretty girl from millvale 4. 04- pretty girl from millvale 05. 05- rubaiyat 5. 05- rubaiyat 06. 06- zelda 6. 06- zelda 07. 07- got love if you want it 7. 07- got love if you want it 08. 08- my soul my own 8. 08- my soul my own 09. 09- julia pt2 9. 09- julia pt2 10. 10- beach hut 10. 10- beach hut 11. 11- norway maple 11. 11- norway maple 12. 12- cerulean 12. 12- cerulean 13. 13- landless peasant blues 13. 13- landless peasant blues 14. 14- live on the moon 14. 14- live on the moon
