Acoustic Junction Live at John Jay School on 1994-05-07

This is an interesting show. First, for the venue - it is at a middle school or high school. Next, I was hearing mandolin, and thought - gee, this seems a little late for Yoshi, and then I realized (and later confirmed) that it is Bruce Hayes . He collaborated with and helped them in the studio quite a bit, but didn't tour very much. I guess they thought that they needed a fifth to play mandolin, etc. after Yoshi left. Don't get me wrong, Bruce is excellent on stringed instruments, and lends an interesting feel to this show - a little funky in places. However, they did quite well as a four piece shortly after this. The first song of the second side (CD, now) is so heavily cut that I can't quite put my finger on it for some reason - it's driving me crazy, because I know it... the tape says Whereabouts Unknown , but that isn't it. There is a very funky intro to Do What You Do , and also this is likely my only version of Water the Roses , since it is a Bruce song, and here it is dedicated to Kurt Cobain. (cut) Poets Giant Zoo Riki > Bombay Bound Heal In Time Look Before It's Gone Speech of Angels Afraid of Breaking Kiss of Misfortune Water the Roses > Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana) > Water the Roses (cut) (cut) ? High On a Mountain Today We Sing the Blues Build a Road Do What You Do Shape of Things to Come   Encore Time > Penny For Your Thoughts (cut) This is AJ Time , not their version of Pink Floyd Time . Enjoy! -Mike
