Zmick Live at The Mousetrap on 2012-07-20

description
Hey everyone, Thanks for checking out "Live from the Mousetrap". This was a really fun show for us for a couple of reasons. First of all, it was our first time ever playing the Mousetrap in Indianapolis (a venue we've been hearing about for years and were really stoked to finally play). Secondly, we had the opportunity to play before and after one of our favorite funk bands ever, "Big Sam's Funky Nation. Lastly, we friggin love playing in Indiana. We have so many great friends in Indiana. There is always such a warm welcoming community at shows in Indiana. For our first set, we had about 45 minutes to rock out. This show was booked very last minute, so we kind of made up a setlist as we went along (something we rarely do). We decided to warm up the show with a Brad Miller oldie "Bring It Back" - A fun tune with sweet little jam in the middle that helps us loosen up. After Bring it Back, we figured we'd test out our instrumental side and rocked one of our favorite MMW influenced kind of groove oriented tunes "Stumbling Pineapple". After Pineapple, we decided to rock another vocal song and played what would probably be one of the shortest versions of "Coming Home" we've ever played (clocking in at 4:22). As a means of keeping people interested (if we hadn't hopefully caught their attention already), we rocked one of our favorite covers "All of My Love" by Led Zeppelin. We then ended the set on a "High" note by rocking one of our newer dandy tunes "High Score". (This particular version of "High Score" would eventually be the soundtrack to a bunch of industrial goth kids dancing on the internet - See link here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcVZ98LxVnI And so that was our first set. Now all we had to do was sit back, hang out, and watch Big Sam destroy the Mousetrap with some mega funk. Between sets, Kris asked Sam if he wanted to sit in with us for a song. Little did we know he would come up on stage when we least expected it! We opened our second set with "Get off the Couch", a progy funk song that Wonsover and Brad through together sometime in early 2012. We figured it was the best way to transition from funk to what we were doing. Then, for something completely different, we rocked a Heavy Metal Pocket Brad wrote before playing the classic Zmick reggae/prog tune, "Stay". During the solo of "Stay" Big Sam waltzed on stage and starts ripping his trombone. We had no idea he was gonna come up when he did. But damn! It was awesome! What a treat. Def. the highlight of the set for all of us. After Stay, we wanted to keep the dandy vibe going, so we played "Sexy, Crazy" for the people wanting to dance. "Sexy Crazy" was followed by a newer instrumental tune, "Feels so Right" (one of our favorites right now). "Sweet Life" came after with an extended solo section. We kind of just went for it and well….you get to witness the results! After, we played "Belly of the Beast", a newer Wonsy tune, bringing a little more of that metal/dungeon funk vibe to the show. At this point in the night, we were starting to get exhausted, but we figured, well….let’s keep this party going awhile longer. So we rocked another Zmick classic "Cob" followed by a friendly cover to send everyone home "Evil Ways" by Santana. All in all, it was a great night. Let me tell you though, 2 sets divided by an hour and a half interlude can be EXHAUSTING. By the time we got through set 2, I think we were all ready for the hotel. On top of being exhausted, we had to leave Indy by 9 the next morning to make it to The Whippersnap festival in Illinois, and we didn't get off the stage until 3:00ish. Boy oh boy oh boy…..the things we do for music! Anyways, the Indianians made it worth it. We had a blast and we're stoked to head back around to the Mousetrap! We friggin love that place! Thanks for downloading/listening! Rock on beautiful people of the internet world! -Zmick The Setlist: Set 1: Bring it Back>HP>Bring It Back, Stumbling Pineapple, Coming Home, All of My Love* (Led Zeppelin), High Score Set 2: Get Off The Couch, Metal Pocket>Floating Island Pocket>Stay^, Sexy Crazy, Feels So Right, Sweet Life>Rock Pocket>Sweet Life, Belly of the Beast, Cob, Evil Ways (Santana) *with Under Pressure (Queen) teases
