Death At Low Waters * Bruce Springsteen Great show, some quiet songs, mostly loud and rocking, what else can you do with 3 guitars and a bass, the songs from the new album blending nicely with the older ones. The band playing very tight and at least Chris and Carla obviously enjoying themselves and the show. How else do you explain an encore of over 30 minutes, so it was a long show as well and not a minute of it boring. The setlist doesn't hold many surprises, usually I don't like it when the same setlist gets played over and over, but in this case the sequence of the songs seemed just right and the show had a nice buildup. The main set doesn't differ much from the rest of the shows, but for the encores they played Wild Sky Revelry from the new record and Death At Low Waters. Given the Walkabouts generosity regarding soundboard access I was tempted to ask but I decided against it. For one thing I don't like to stand that far back, for another I personally prefer a good audience recording 'cos the audience is part of what makes a show - and in this case the audience didn't spoil the show, not much chatter, nothing annoying. The show was loud enough to get me worried about the recording level towards the end, but I gambled and stayed right under the limit, no clipping, slight adjustment of the levels (but none of the dynamics, no further remastering except some limiter on close clapping applied manually, the result sounds fine. Missed about 1 min of the 1st encore break due to change of MD, the gap was patched seamless.
