Chicago soul and R&B band The Right Now performed two shows in November, 2010-- Davenport and Iowa City. This is the show from The Mill Restaurant in Iowa City on Saturday, November 6th. Although they were slated to be the headliners, they performed first, presumably as a way to maximize the under-21 crowd. It was a good crowd, not packed, but the room was full of people who were into the show and the band delivered. This recording has some new songs that the band will be heading into the studio to record after the beginning of 2011. The Tascam DR-07 was sitting immediately to the right of the horn section, so there are a couple of places that the horns are pretty loud, but it gives you a good idea about how strong the horns are in The Right Now. I was particularly touched by the shout-out to my wife and me at the beginning of "Before I Know Your Name." Earlier this year I partnered with the band to put out the vinyl version of their amazing "Carry Me Home" album, and the band was showing their thanks. There is a burst of static around 2:52 in "Till It Went Wrong" from a short in a patch cable.
