In 2001, Thelonious Monster played a few shows in L.A. including a benefit for Gloria Scott, a legendary L.A. drug counselor.  Around the same time, a friend of Bob's was turning 40, so the birthday boy's pals asked Bob if he'd bring the band to NYC to do a birthday party.  Bob said yes.  The Monster drove a tough bargain.  They wanted plane tickets and a hotel room for all of them to share (although Bob ended up staying somewhere else).  Since the Monster was  coming to NYC, their manager set up a gig at the Mercury Lounge where Bob F. would do a solo set of Bicycle Thief tunes, followed by a full on Monster set.  The Bicycle Thief's only album was being reissued by Artemis records so they sent their office down for a sort of a record release party.  Bob was going to get the Monster members to play some of the Bicycle Thief songs with him, but the problem was that they didn't really know them or want to play them.  Mike Martt and Pete Weiss did join in for a few of the BT songs during the short acoustic set which opened the show. Then the Monster came on and blew the doors off the place. This contains both sets from the Mercury Lounge show.  There is tape of the birthday party show somewhere, but it doesn't sound too good.  But this show was recorded from the SBD direct to DAT.  From there it got ripped to the HD, burned to CD, converted back to wavs and turned into flacs for this torrent. (and subsequently reworked for posting to Archive.org) Enjoy this wonderful document of one of the best bands ever.
