************ Set 2 only ************ God Johnson 3/28/2007 The Cabooze – Minneapolis GJ Time – 11:15 The Doctor Long Past Gone Theme From The Bottom Triscit * Let `Em In > Who Am I 12:10 Set Two – 12:25 Moist Electric Shoes Half Past One The Squirms II > Psycho Killer > I Wish * 1:22 * - Kevin Sinclair on sax Kubla Khan opened the show with a really fun, high-energy set. I thought the horn section sounded great, and I found myself wondering what a full horn section would sound like backing up GJ. Definitely one of the better opening acts this year. The GJ set got started with a tight-sounding version of The Doctor. Things loosened up a little bit with Long Past Gone, and the jam hinted of things to come. Theme From The Bottom was a rocker, but Triscuit really blew it away. In the second (may have been the third) section, things really got crazy with Jimmy and Timmy really throwing down. Let `Em In sounded great, and it jammed right into Who Am I which was a bit unusual. This was my highlight for the first set, with a really deep extended jam. At a couple of points, it felt a little spacey in almost a Pink Floyd sort of way. Very cool. The second set started off with what can be described as a volcanic eruption being launched out of a cannon. Okay, it was a Moist, not a volcano. But what a moist it was! Twenty five minutes of layering, building, crescendo-filled mayhem capped off with a beautiful soaring Sunshine Jam that was simply amazing. It's tough to follow something like that up, but Electric Shoes did nicely with Timmy singing soulfully as they funked their way through the jam. Half Past One was fun but pretty standard. The Squirms II seemed a bit of a surprise as it rocked its way into Psycho Killer. This turned into a great heavy jam, and it took a surprise turn into Stevie Wonder Land and became I Wish. Kevin came back up for some sax work, and Jimmy laid down some serious funk to close out the evening. We never did get to hear our new cover, but I don't think it's been laid to rest just yet. Come on out for the VIP event on Friday and hopefully we'll get a chance to see something new then! And remember, it's VIP so dress accordingly! It's always fun to see the usual crowd all dressed to the nines and rocking out. There are going to be a few tickets available at the door, so come early if you haven't reserved your spot on the list yet. Food and drinks are provided, and you'll go home with new copies of both Squirms discs as well as whatever we get to hear them play live in the studio. It's a fun place, and one heck of a studio with some really great folks running the show, so I hope to see a great crowd out having a good time on Friday.
