Decided to knock out this gig. Now sure, we use the Yamaha Tyros 5 for our backing (drums/bass and occasionally other sounds), but there's still a lot going on with what we are trying to accomplish here!! No practice. Not too bad. I thought we would be way "rustier". Oh...and as the keyboard player...I experimented with using a simple iPad (5th gen) with 2Gb of RAM and 32Gb of storage to host my "swiss army knife" keyboard sounds as follows: Grand Piano: iGrand Rhodes: iLectric Wurly: iLectric B3 Organ: Galileo Overall they sounded decent. I couldn't get Neo Soul keys working in time, but Neo Soul would have given my Rhodes and Wurly tones a much better sound (it is, in my opinion, a better sound library than iLectric). I used a Focusrite 6i6 audio interface hooked to the iPad and the Tyros 5 keyboard was MIDI'd into the Focusrite and thus I could trigger the three main keyboard libraries on the iPad (iGrand, iLectric, Galileo). So THAT was interesting! Also, I updated the firmware on the QSC Touchmix 16 to 3.xxx and I really enjoyed the better layouts on the mixer now...makes it easier to use, especially if you're a musician trying to mix AND play (and sing) at the same time. Nice job QSC! Some day: use the iPad entirely with a simple controller keyboard (and the Focusrite 6i6) and use Trax 2 on the iPad to "power the band" in terms of setting loop points (if necessary) on .wav files and Trax allows you to jump around between and over loop points so you can "direct" the song a little better than a straight-through backing track (hope that makes sense!). Enjoy! M-Factor: 3 Until next time, Kevin B. Selby
