This recording represents part of Dan's earliest efforts to capture the live concert experience for posterity, hence the series name "Dan Lampinski - The Early Years Volume XX".  Given the very consistent high quality of Dan's later work, it would have been easy to blow off these recordings and consign them to the dustbin of history, but there are quite a few captures in the series that are well worth circulating, if not for their rarity, but for the obsessive collector types (we know who we are) that want every single second of any recordings of their favourite musicians.  So please, just accept these recordings for what they are, another part of the tapestry we weave when we  collect and share such things.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. very good sounding aud recording.

i think it is as much a dickey betts solo as anything. there is a nice bit of will the circle be unbroken in there. this period of the band is a little different for me. at times with chuck's slick piano the music flows into a jazzy sea level realm. they dont start doing les brers until around the 9:40 mark into the song. that does not last long until the jam over takes the music again. the drums start around 17:15 and run to around 29:00 when the other instruments start to tone back in and begin a new jam. unfortunatley the tape cuts out before they finish playin. i am very sorry i did not note this cut out earlier. i have no idea how long the jam continued.

The Bucolic Frolic

This is a hither unreleased partial recording of the first appearance of the Allman bothers band at Knebworth, it does have a few issues but is in my mind, better quality in the main than the full show that has previously circulated (which purports to be a radio recording but is most likely not).

As for The ABB I really am sorry to have left early but I seem to remember I had to be back at a given time in London and the BR schedule at Stevenage didn’t really help.  I had had my share with the Doobies and Van Morrison who had definitely stolen the show. Anyway 44’ is about all that is left:

The deck was a Uher CR 210, it was quite good by 40 years ago standards it was brand new and it was the first time I'd used it (apart from an unsuccessful attempt to tape a Kinks show in Paris in 74:a real bummer for poor old Ray and a terrible frustration for me; the rain had emptied my batteries and I was left with three dreadful songs including a terrible flop with Lola in front of an all-communist audience, real nightmare) I used BASF chrome tapes but left the regular anti wind foamy stuff which are great to cut the s's when you speak in front of the mike but definitely not enough to cope with Knebworth weather, although the wind had died considerably by the time to the Allman's played.

http://allmanbrothersband.com lists a setbreak between In Memory of Elizabeth Reed & Statesboro Blues; matching crowd noise on the original tapes allowed for a natural segue.

Original tape flip between You Don't Love Me & Les Bres in A Minor lost ~10 seconds in the guitar intro.


Also included are Toast/Jam printouts for the two CDs (so you can use the "Audio starts in Pause" timings to have a track end when the music stops and the subsequent track start when the music begins).

If you wish to combine the two CDs into one continuous set, substitute d01t11 & d02t01 with the corresponding link tracks.  This will provide an uncut playback of the entire concert.


Notes:

Recorded on a Sony TC-110A, using the built-in microphone (see http://www.sciencetech.technomuses.ca/english/collection/cassette_rec.cfm).  Original cassettes were transferred to a Mac DAW using a Denon DR-M10HR. The analog signal was first run through: a) a SAE 2800 parametric equalizer to bump the highs slightly and to remove "room boom" at around 80 MHz; & b) a Phase Linear Autocorrelator to remove hiss & expand the signal (the TC-110A did not have controls for recording; the recorder, designed for dictation, compressed the signal and recorded at a fixed level). Transferred to the Mac using a MOTU 896.  Bias Deck used to splice tape flips, even out volume levels & in some case to edit audience portions to allow for whole sets to fit on a 80 minute CD.  Bias Peak used to transfer SDII files to WAV files for shn compression.  Shntool used to correct SBEs.

This recording is one of literally dozens of concerts recorded by Joe Maloney in the late '60s - late '70s to be released to the live recording community.  The bulk of the concerts recorded were in the Boston area, with some in Maine venues.


starts off sounding like this was recorded from back in the Hall. Improves some as it goes on (if I was going to rate it, B/B+).

Trouble in order to keep the flow of the immediate segue at end
of Trouble into Jessica intact. The overlap which had been unnec-
essarily introduced at that position was removed in audacity. Also,
a new, unobtrusive overlap of less than 5 seconds was introduced
for the above new disc change position. Wav conversion to flac16
(level 8) was performed directly using TLH.
